The tour showcases the landscapes and entertaining areas in backyard gardens that aren't visible from the street. While the tour is sold out, tour check-in is at the picnic pavilion at Rivercrest Park, 4802 N. River Boulevard, where maps will be provided
If there's one thing residents of Seminole Heights and beyond love, it's a beautiful garden. That's evident in the sold out status of the inaugural "Secret Gardens of South Seminole Heights Tour" that kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 28. The free tour, sponsored by the South Seminole Heights Civic Association, was funded by a neighborhood mini-grant from Hillsborough County and donations from local businesses, said Nanette O'Hara, tour chairperson. "We're stunned at the response and the enthusiasm," said O'Hara, adding that about 275 people had registered for the tour. "People in Seminole Heights attend events in Seminole Heights, but we were surprised to hear from people from other parts of the county." The idea came about after O'…

The business is at 6502 N. Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights.
Sketch books, aerosol paint and ergonomic palettes line the walls inside a small building on Florida Avenue. At Figure 8 Art Supplies in Seminole Heights, owner Julie Dilbert hopes to provide Tampa Bay's artistic community with an outlet to express themselves and purchase the tools they need to hone their crafts. “I want to introduce products no one has ever heard of," Dilbert said. “I want to get high quality products in the hands of artists.” Dilbert, a west Tampa resident who works as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, chose Seminole Heights as a location for her store because it's "accessible for Tampa residents." The store is at 5805 N. Florida Avenue in Seminole Heights.
She's sold everything from ornaments to bird houses and fresh pasta. Now, Michelle Brooks is venturing into the baby consignment business at Brooksie's Market, adding one-piece baby blue pajamas with white snowflakes and onesies adorned with phrases like "Little Hunky Monkey" on the front to her inventory. "I'm buying clothes from parents whose kids have outgrown their clothes,'" said Brooks, owner of the store. "Hopefully, they'll rebuy from someone for their kid." Brooksie's opened last fall at 5805 N. Florida Avenue in a quaint house with hardwood floors. Since then, Brooks has considered moving to a larger space with a more pedestrian-friendly feel that would draw foot traffic from customers, and accommodate the inventory she hopes to …

It is disappointing they left the building so plain after all the concerns expressed. The FD on MLK and 15th has a better look. I would like to see it turn each of the blank wall sections into a false front of small shops that represent their departments such as pet supplies, drug store, hardware and clothing store. Give the building a group of small village shops look. Maybe the manager can …   more ›
