What Do You Recommend at Yummy House?

Tell us your favorite menu items at this Hong Kong style BBQ place.

"What Do You Recommend?" is an occasional feature that asks Patch readers to weigh in on their favorite menu items at local restaurants and bars. Once again, we feature a restaurant outside the Seminole Heights boundaries, but with a location to the north (Waters Avenue) and to the east (Hillsborough Avenue) of Tampa's oldest neighborhood, Yummy House is certainly a destination for local residents. Known for their lunchtime dim sum and carefully prepared entrees, Yummy House has built up a reputation for itself since opening. It's the type of place where just about everything seems gourmet and family style dining with a lazy susan in the middle of your table is a perfect fit. Let Patch save you time. Meet the Owner: Country Pumpkin

Familiar American diner fare has taken root next door to the exotic delights of Yummy House China Bistro.

Yummy House China Bistro brought swank upscale dining to East Hillsborough Avenue in June 2011. Three months later Country Pumpkin opened next door as a casual adjunct. Brought to us by chef Ramon Cabron Jr. and Yummy House co-owner John Zhao, the Pumpkin features a simple American diner menu, all day breakfasts, and a business day that ends after the lunch rush. Country Pumpkin Cafe 2620 E Hillsborough Ave., Suite B 813-237-1818 All day breakfasts: include steak and eggs, pork chop and eggs, omelets, french toast, hash browns, and a fruit plate. For lunch there's also sandwiches like reubens, grilled turkey rachel, burgers, and Cubans, plus soups and salads. Think along the lines of Village Inn, or IHOP: Only better tasting, according to …

Meet the Owners: Yummy House China Bistro on East Hillsborough Avenue

A venerable Central Tampa Chinese restaurant has a new, better-dressed sibling.

It’s not every day that a restaurant opens on East Hillsborough Avenue with the words, “executive chef" at the entrance. It's  too early to tell if the swank new Yummy House China Bistro marks a turning point for this east Tampa gateway, but co-owner John Zhao isn’t having second thoughts. “I think we made the right decision because east Tampa is getting very crowded and busy,” he said, mentioning nearby Interstates and Hard Rock Café. A similarly unglamorous locale didn't stop the original Yummy House on West Waters Avenue from winning legions of discerning fans of authentic Chinese cuisine in Central Tampa. It opened in 2007. The new Yummy House’s location isn’t without its practical benefits. It is across the street from Sanwa Farmer’s …

I couldn't agree more with Helen. We went last night. The best Chinese food I have had since China Town in NY. The portions are very large. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is exciting and welcoming. Finally a restaurant in Seminole Heights where the food is the main attraction, not just drinking. We will be regulars!   more ›
