Senior Cam Alford belts three-run homer and knocks in seven in 14-7 win at McKeel Academy of Lakeland.

In a game that mirrored their up and down season, Tampa Catholic's baseball team rallied for nine runs in the last two innings to defeat McKeel Academy of Lakeland, 14-7, in their Class 3A regional quarterfinal Tuesday. The visiting Crusaders (13-13) were led by senior Cam Alford, who hit a three-run homer, double and single for seven runs batted in. He was aided by Nick Alfonso, who had three hits, including a double, and four RBIs, and Gio Marrero, who had three hits and two RBIs in the Crusaders’ 15-hit attack. TC advances to the region semifinal at rival Clearwater Central Catholic Friday at 7 p.m. This is a rematch of last year’s semifinal when TC upset CCC on its way to the 3A state semifinals. Tampa Catholic Headed for State Playoffs

The Tampa Catholic girls lacrosse team won the regional final on Friday night giving them a birth in the state playoffs next week.

Tim McGroff's wolfpack is eating opponents alive. To the Tampa Catholic High School girls lacrosse team, "Wolfpack" is more than just a designed defensive play that McGroff can be heard screaming on the sidelines during the game, it's a mentality that the Lady Crusaders bring to the field. "When the other team gets the ball it's an organized play I call out for that indicates the type of defense I want them to play," McGroff said. "It's not just the work aspect though anymore, it's kind of fun for the girls to approach the game with a pack mentality." On Friday night, McGroff's wolfpack advanced to the state playoffs for the first time in his six year tenure as coach. They did it with a well rounded performance in which they toppled …

While I applaud you for running an article about the Tampa Catholic girl's lacrosse team (or any lacrosse team) I must point out an error. Coach McGroff has not been the coach of the Tampa Catholic girl's team for the past 6 years. Last year the coach was Barbara Mergens and prior to that Tom O'Grady coached the team for 4 years, taking them to the playoffs as an FHSAA member 3 of those 4 years. …   more ›

Lady Crusaders Headed to State Basketball Tourney

The Tampa Catholic girls basketball team will travel to Lakeland next Wednesday to play in the state tournament.

The Tampa Catholic girls basketball team will advance to the state tournament in Lakeland next week after a victory on the road against Southeast (Bradenton) on Saturday in the class 3A final. A win seemed all but assured at halftime with the Crusaders leading by a score of 28-12, but Southeast would gather themselves in the second half and press Tampa Catholic to the max. The Crusaders would end up hanging on by a score of 61-55. "We got into foul trouble in the second half and defensively we struggled," Crusader coach Nancy Kroll said. "They came out and hit some big shots, and we were actually down by four at one point, so we had to show a lot of mettle. We didn't lose our composure, and we got a big second half out of Kai Jones." Jones…

Crusaders Fall to St. Pete Catholic in Girls’ District Soccer Finals

Despite 1-0 loss, Tampa Catholic advances to Class 3A regional semifinals.

Tampa Catholic High School’s surprising run through the Class 3A-District 10 girls’ soccer tournament ended Friday with a 1-0 loss to St. Petersburg Catholic in the district championship at Berkeley Prep. However, the Crusaders still advanced in the postseason by virtue of qualifying for the finals.   The Crusaders (5-11-1) will play at Frostproof in the regional semifinals Thursday night at 7 p.m. The fourth-seeded Crusaders shocked top-seeded host Berkeley with a thrilling 2-1 semifinal victory Wednesday led by Michelle Bartholet’s two goals and outstanding goaltending from Jill Watts. However, Tampa Catholic was stymied in the finals by St. Pete Catholic’s airtight defense. Forward Ashleigh Singleton had the best scoring opportunity in …

Tampa Catholic Athletics Update

Seminole Heights Patch caught up with the Crusaders winter teams to find out where Tampa Catholic stands at this point.

Boys Basketball (7-2) The Crusaders have had a busy schedule in December, playing in two tournaments as well as their regular season. The amount of games the team has played in a short time combined with exams for the players has meant that the team hasn't practiced much during the chaotic stretch. While the Crusaders have been successful in spite of their busy schedule, the players showed signs of wear in the City of Tampa Championship where they lost to Blake in the semi-finals. After falling behind by 15 points due to a terrible third quarter, the Crusaders stormed back into the game in the fourth reducing the lead to three. In the end, they would run out of gas and fall to the Yellow Jackets by a score of 68-59. "Our schedule has been …
