Target will be pulling an all-nighter come Black Friday Eve. The store announced this week that they will open at 9 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 22 with select Black Friday savings. The store will begin offering additional Doorbuster sales at 4 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 23. In Seminole Heights, that means you can head over to Target 1544 N. Dale Mabry Highway right after you finish off that Thanksgiving dessert. "We heard from our guests that they look forward to kicking off their holiday shopping with deal-hunting on Thanksgiving night," said Kathee Tesija, Target's executive vice president for merchandising in an announcement. "Opening at 9 p.m. gives Target’s Black Friday guests a more convenient way to create an after-dinner shopping event that …

The business plans to open on Nebraska Avenue in Old Seminole Heights.
In November, the son of a Tampa police officer fatally shot a man in the drive-through lane of Salem's Gyro's & Subs on Nebraska Avenue, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Four months later, plans were announced for another location of the sub shop chain to open - also on Nebraksa Avenue - in Old Seminole Heights. But residents of Old Seminole Heights say crime statistics pulled from the sub shop's Hillsborough Avenue location coupled with last year's killing have been cause for concern after news broke about the business opening its doors in their neighborhood. They worry that if the sub shop remains open late, as some Salem's locations do, violence and loud noise will become the norm at the new location, too. Their plan? Attending a Tampa…

But the photos of her smiling nieces and nephews are only part of the homespun feel of the restuarant at 1006 E. Hillsborough Avenue. Homemade red velvet cake, oxtails and pans of macaroni and cheese have helped lure customers to the dine and and carry out restaurant since Brown, a married mother of four, opened her doors in August. Brown, who helped run her mother-in-law's business before opening her own, recently talked soul food and business savvy while taking a break inside her restaurant. On her specialties: Fried turkey wings. I also have brown stew oxtails. I also do chitterlings. A lot of …

Businesses near the proposed Family Dollar location at 5100 Florida Avenue are not happy about their new neighbors.
An issue is causing a stir within the Seminole Heights community surrounding a new Family Dollar location on Florida Avenue and some local business owners have made it clear which side of the divide they sit on. At a recent meeting was staged by the owners of The Refinery, other local business owners from Sherry's Yesterdaze, Cleanse Apothecary, The Independant and several other local shops. Shop owners met with members of the community and attempted to identify a plan to move toward stopping the retail chain. That meeting berthed a website and fueled a Facebook movement. It also became the subject of a recent Tampa Bay Times article, which painted a scene with racial overtones. "I was at that meeting and I'm disappointed with the article…

Good news folks. It's not too late to stop Salems drive-thru. City council met last night (Oct 11) and delayed decision on Salmes "special use application" (request for zoning change to allow a drive-thru) until next meeting which will be Nov 15, at 10am. City council spent considerable time discussing the fate of the beautiful grand oak tree that stands behind the building. By code you can't …   more ›
