Bicycle Bash Announcement Party Brings Together Cycling Community

Alan Snel and his SWFBUD bike shops collaborated on Tuesday night to bring the cycling community face to face with local leaders.

Cyclists from around the Bay Area came together on Tuesday night at Velo Champ in Seminole Heights to celebrate the announcement of the 2012 Bicycle Bash, a celebration of bicycle culture in the Tampa area. This year's event has been moved from a county park to Fort Brooke Cotanchobee Park in downtown Tampa on Nov. 4. Tuesday's announcement was accompanied by talks from County Commissioner Mark Sharpe, City Councilman Frank Reddick and Transportation Director Jean Duncan. "The Bicycle Bash last year was the first time really that there was a non-formal way to interact with the cycling community," Duncan said. Tampa Lawyer Donates $2,000 to Make Roads Safer for Bicyclists

A SWFBUD member donated $2,000 to Tampa Police for more "Share the Road It's the Law" decals to be applied on Tampa Police cruisers' rear windows.

South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers (SWFBUD), the alliance of Tampa Bay retail bicycle stores and bicycle lawyers committed to growing bicycling in Tampa Bay, is proud to announce that SWFBUD member J. Steele Olmstead donated $2,000 to the Tampa Police Department for more Share the Road It's the Law decals to be placed on police cars' rear windows. Olmstead, a Tampa lawyer and bicyclist who has been a SWFBUD member for the past two years, presented his contribution to Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn during a check presentation ceremony in front of Tampa Police Department headquarters in downtown Tampa on Wednesday, April 25. Bicycle Bash Aims to Educate, Entertain

This FREE event will provide families and cycling enthusiasts of all levels together to learn more about riding in Tampa Bay and the health benefits of biking.

Calling all casual neighborhood biking enthusiasts, roadies and mountain bikers and urban cyclists. Anyone interested in learning more about bicycling in the Tampa Bay area is encouraged to come to the 5th Annual Bicycle Bash. This FREE event is set for 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 6) at Flatwoods Park, 14302 Morris Bridge Rd., Thonotosassa. Bike Retailers Name Tampa Bay's 2011 SWFBUDDY Award Winners

Winners will be honored at the Nov. 6 Bicycle Bash Festival at Flatwoods Park.

SWFBUD  (South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers), the alliance of 12 Tampa Bay retail bicycle shops, is proud to announce this year's SWFBUDDY Award winners who will be honored during the SWFBUD Bicycle Bash Festival at Flatwoods Park on Nov. 6. SWFBUD gives the SWFBUDDY Award to Tampa Bay residents who have made our community a more bicycle-friendly place. The SWFBUDDY Award honorees are: Tampa City Councilwoman Yolin Capin, for her support of shared road markings ("Sharrows") that have been placed on various streets in the city of Tampa. Bike Trail Network Proposed

The BAM Network would link bike trails throughout Hillsborough County.

Local bicycle activists addressed Tampa City Council on Thursday to advocate for a network of bike trails and received positive feedback from council members. The BAM – Bicycle Area Mobility – Network is an envisioned chain of bike trails that would stretch from New Tampa to Ruskin. Alan Snel, the President of SWFBUD – the South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers – presented the proposal to City Council. Supporters of the project wore T-shirts reading, “Build the BAM!” Snel said the goal is “to create a superhighway system for bicyclists and other users.” The BAM Network would link three different bike trails: the Tampa Bypass Canal Trail, which stretches from New Tampa to State Road 60; the Selmon Greenway, which is proposed to be built …

Vélo Champ Joins Regional Bicycle Retail Group

Seminole Heights boutique bike shop joins SWFBUD.

SWFBUD (South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers), the Tampa Bay alliance of retail bicycle shops committed to bicycle advocacy, is happy to announce that a twelfth bike store has joined the consortium.   Vélo Champ, a boutique bicycle store in the Tampa neighborhood of Seminole Heights, joined SWFBUD effective September 2011.   Vélo Champ is owned by bike supporter Jordan Miller, who appreciates SWFBUD's work on increasing the profile of bicycling in the Tampa Bay market. Vélo Champ is a specialty bike shop that sells items such as Cinelli road bikes, Linus urban bikes and Brooks bike accessories at its bike shop on Central Avenue at Hanna Avenue in Tampa.
