The U.S. Postal Service is now charging a penny more for regular letters.
Seminole Heights residents hoping a drop a few letters into the mail this morning might want to check their stamps. The cost of sending out a letter just went up by a penny. The U.S. Postal Service raised the rate to mail a 1-ounce letter from 45 cents to 46 cents yesterday, Jan. 27. The good news, however, is anyone who uses a “Forever stamp” won’t have to scramble to get extra postage. Going forward, the new 46-cent Forever stamps will continue to cover postage costs – no matter what price increases come down from Washington, D.C. “Forever stamps are always good for mailing a one-ounce letter anytime in the future regardless of price changes,” a postal service media release said. East Tampa's Produce location is among 3,700 post offices that will be reviewed for possible closure.
Last year, Central Tampa residents lost the Seminole Heights post office on North Florida Avenue due to downsizing by the U.S. Postal Service. The Sulphur Springs location on North Nebraska Avenue inherited its customers and P.O. boxes. Now, another Postal Service location—the Produce Station at 2810 E. Hillsborough Ave.—appears to be in the crosshairs. On Tuesday, the U.S. Postal Service released a list of about 3,700 offices across the country that could be closed following a review. What's a letter? The problem is the increased cost of Priority mail. I already use FedEx and UPS for most packages, they certainly handle things with much more care than the USPS and the people who run those franchises are a lot more friendly and helpful than the rude and permanently pissed-off counter staff at local Post Offices.
