15th Annual Home Tour Scheduled for April 7

Tickets are on sale a Cleanse Apothecary, Three Coins Diner, Health Mutt and through the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association. This year, small businesses are also included.

In a few weeks, Seminole Heights will showcase one of its well-known gems: The neighborhood bungalows that dot tree-lined streets. The 15th Annual Seminole Heights Home Tour runs from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on tour day. This year's tour, sponsored by the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association, features 11 homes. In addition, a handful of small businesses will be highlighted on the tour. "For Seminole Heights, if you haven't been on the home tour, it's important for everybody to go," said Greg Curtis, co-owner of Cleanse Apothecary, one of three locations where tickets are being sold for the tour. Walmart Issue Draws Mixed Reactions from Seminole Heights Residents

With the news of another big box retailer coming to Seminole Heights, residents have chimed in with a flurry of comments about the issue. The Walmart heading to Seminole Heights would be in the 1700 block of East Hillsborough. Meanwhile, Family Dollar is set to open this spring on Florida Avenue. Details Surface on Walmart Plans for Seminole Heights

A flurry of press reports detail the initial plans by Walmart to develop a second store in Seminole Heights.

Walmart is about to close a deal to buy property in Seminole Heights for a new store, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. According to the Tampa Bay Business Journal: "The deal to purchase the former Abraham Chevrolet Co. property at 1720 E. Hillsborough is contingent on an environmental study and the city granting the necessary permits to build the retail store." The property is worth $2.8 million, according to TBO.com. The developer has received the OK from the city to install access driveways on Mohawk Avenue and 19th Street as well as a traffic signal installed at 19th Street and Hillsborough. Reader's Spotlight: 15th Annual Home Tour Scheduled April 7

The Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its popular home tour.

Residents will have a chance to peer inside some of the meticulously renovated homes they've only glimpsed from the street when the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association hosts its 15th annual home tour. According to chairwoman Sue Bingham, who posted this event on the Seminole Heights Patch, this year's home tour will take place Sunday, April 7. "The 2013 home tour will feature original homes that have been carefully restored and modernized, and will show case our entire beautiful and historic neighborhood," said Bingham. In addition to showcasing renovated homes, this year's tour will feature two businesses in the historic district including Forever Beautiful Salon & Spa and a "surprise business," according to Bingham. Open House Set Feb. 5 on Proposed Rezoning

The rezoning would permit three- and four-story buildings along Florida and Hillsborough avenues.

A public information open house is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. to discuss a proposal for intensive commercial zoning along Hillsborough and Florida avenues in Seminole Heights. The open house will take place at the Seminole Heights Garden Center, 5800 N. Central Ave., Tampa. The City of Tampa Planning Department is proposing new zoning that would permit:  Representatives from the planning department will be on hand to explain the proposed rezoning in more detail. The Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association is urging all neighbors who would like to understand exactly how the proposed rezoning will impact the neighborhood, ask questions or express concerns to attend.

OSHNA: City of Tampa Proposing Zoning Changes in Seminole Heights

The changes would include Florida Avenue, according to the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association's website.

The City of Tampa is proposing zoning changes to Seminole Heights, according to a posting on the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association's newsletter and the Hampton Terrace website. An open house about the rezoning will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 or at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 1400 N. Boulevard, the OSHNA newsletter says. Four stories allowed on 50 ft lots 2 blocks north and south of Hillsborough seems really out of place....if my neighbor were to sell one of his lots between him and myself - it sounds like someone could erect a 4 story apartment building there as long as it conformed to ARC guidelines. OSHNA Welcomes Public For Holiday Party

The Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association will host its annual Holiday Dinner and Concert on Dec. 9.

Seminole Heights residents will be treated a two-decade old tradition on Dec. 9 when the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association hosts its annual Holiday Dinner and Concert. What began as a few members of the community gathering to hear a group of residents who called themselves the Clifton Street Singers over a cup of hot cocoa has morphed into an all out holiday-themed bash complete with singers, entrees, side dishes prepared by members, drinks and a visit from Santa Clause for the kids. "It's grown quite a bit from the early days," said OSHNA President Evan St. Ives. OSHNA's Great Neighborhood Yard Sale on Saturday

If you're searching for a bargain, mark your calendar for Nov. 3. Starting at 7 a.m. on that day, the Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association will host their annual 'Great Neighborhood Yard Sale,' according to their website.
