Forget the shot of espresso. A woman having coffee at Starbucks in Tyrone Square Mall in St. Petersburg this past weekend was shot in the calf when her friend's gun discharged from inside her purse. According to an article in the Tampa Bay Times, 38-year-old Amiee Peterson of Pinellas Park did not even realize that she had been shot until she saw blood oozing from her leg. Her friend, 51-year-old Pamela Back, also of Pinellas Park, told police that she kept the gun in her purse, but had never taken it out or cleaned it, since her father had given her the .25 caliber firearm. A 66-year-old Sarasota man faces a drug charge, after police allege that he ran a large-scale retail marijuana operation that involved receiving weekly deliveries of high-grade cannabis at his home that he repackaged into smaller quantities and sold at a profit. Sarasota Police Chief Bernadette DiPino held a press conference Monday, May 6, to announce the arrest of Anthony Snead, in connection to a six-month undercover operation. He was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell. Detectives estimate that Snead paid approximately $780,000 to $1 million per year for the cannabis, which he then resold for more money. A North Tampa woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child after she left her 7-month-old infant inside a bathtub with the water running for at least 15 minutes, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The child drowned in the tub. Deputies say that Sierra McMillan, 22, of 14512 Seaford Circle placed her baby in the bathtub and turned on the water on April 28. When the doorbell rang, she left the baby in the tub with the water running, answered the door and spent time speaking with a solicitor. A Sarasota office manager is charged with practicing medicine without a license after authorities say she performed a painful procedure on a patient following her cosmetic surgery. Christine Patterson, 44, is the brother of Dr. Alberico Sessa and works as the medical biller and an office manager at his Clark Road practice, Sarasota Surgical Arts, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. A patient came to the office in 2011 to complain of "massive swelling," with two witnesses telling investigators the woman's face was "swollen like a pumpkin." A 22-year-old Tampa woman is accused of "violently grabbing" her ex-boyfriend's penis during a dispute Tuesday in Bradenton, the Manatee County Sheriff's office reports. According to deputies, Laquavia Sharelle Wallace came to her ex's residence in the 3500 block of 14th Street West to pick up their daughter. While there, the former couple got into an argument because Wallace wanted to rekindle their relationship, an arrest report states. A Clearwater man was arrested after authorities said he brought unregistered guns and ammunition onto the grounds of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC, on Sunday, according to a report from The Associated Press. A Tampa massage parlor under investigation for human trafficking has shut down after the building's landlord terminated the lease. The building owner determined Ocean Health Spa, at 3631 Henderson Blvd., was violating its lease and therefore terminated it, police said. Four people were arrested earlier this week during a drug bust and prostitution sting by the Tampa Police Department. During the operation, officers purchased crack cocaine from two suspects and were approached and asked to have sex with another two. All four were arrested for crimes varying from prostitution to drugs. An osprey that was found shot in East Lake has had its injured wing amputated. The female osprey was found injured Saturday morning near the Pinellas Trail, just off East Lake Road and across from East Lake United Methodist Church.
