The 43rd anniversary of Earth Day will be celebrated Monday, April 22, by more than one billion people around the world. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day was born out of the spirit of the 1960s anti-war movement. The day was founded by Wisconsin Sen. The university's Earth Day celebration will take place Saturday, April 20 at the USF Botanical Gardens.
A farmer's market, eco-friendly arts and crafts and green business will highlight the annual Earth Day festivities at the University of South Florida. The event will take place Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the USF Botanical Gardens. Hosted by USF’s Patel College of Global Sustainability and the Office of Sustainability, this year’s Earth Day theme, “Fresh Food Revolution," is intended to promote local food growers, producers, distributors, educators and supporters. This just in from Kitty Wallace: Tampa Heights Community Garden invites you to celebrate Earth Day on Sunday, April 21 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. There will be food, music, games, earth-friendly vendors, educational displays and garden tours. The garden is located in historic Tampa Heights at 605 East Frances Avenue, three blocks south of Columbus Drive and two blocks east of Central Avenue. Tampa Heights Community Garden will host a festival on Earth Day.
Celebrate Earth Day at the Tampa Heights Community Garden on Sunday, April 22. The event will feature garden workshops, local market vendors, raffles, bluegrass live music, games and activities. Raffle prizes include tickets to WMNF's Tropical Heatwave and the Florida Aquarium and gift certificates for Ella's, Cappy's, Lee's Grocery, Yoga Loft and more. In order to raise funds for the garden, lunch will be available featuring BBQ grilled chicken with homemade sides, bread, and a drink for $8 per adult and $5 per child. Dessert is sold separately. There will also be $1 raffle tickets (six for $5) on sale. Proceeds will help fund the garden, located at 605 E. Francis Ave. in Tampa Heights.
