Two Years Ago Today, Tampa Police Lost 2 of Their Own

Tampa Police Department observes the two-year anniversary of the slayings of officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis, gunned down in a 2010 traffic stop.

Two years ago today, the Tampa Police Department lost two of its own. Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis were gunned down June 29, 2010, during a routine traffic stop. The slayings shocked residents of the Tampa Bay area, with thousands lining the streets for a funeral procession and gathering at a memorial service. Kocab and Curtis, both 31, were memorialized in a plaque at Tampa Police's District 3 headquarters. The officers' widows are suing the Jacksonville Sheriff, The Associated Press reported this week, over what they say was negligence in the form of bad warrants that led Kocab and Curtis to pull over the alleged shooter, Dontae Morris.
