A portion of the proceeds will go to the Run to Remember Alexis Saunders.
When Anne Nyer Shields arrived at Berkeley Prep as a ninth grader, Alexis Saunders was one of the first people she met. "She always had a smile on her face," said Nyer Shields. "I think it's important to remember that." The girls became best friends, and later, part of a close-knit alumni community. About eight years ago, Saunders, an animal lover and runner, was diagnosed with brain cancer. She died in 2009 at the age of 34. Soon after, Nyer Shields was shopping at Cleanse Apothecary in Seminole Heights. She mentioned to co-owner Greg Curtis that she was organizing a 5K fundraiser in honor of her friend. Curtis offered his business for another event in honor of Saunders called Fauna Fest. This year's event - which features Fauna pet care …

The guide, now in its second edition, highlights businesses in Seminole Heights.
It's known for its central Tampa neighborhoods dotted with colorful bungalows. Now, residents in Seminole Heights hope to put the area's small business community on the map using the "Eat, Drink & Shop Local" guide. The beige foldout features a map of the business corridor in addition to the name, website, address and pertinent information regarding what the business sells, from antiques to costume jewelry. Free copies of the guide, which includes about three dozen businesses, are available at stores featured in it. Greg Curtis - who opened Cleanse Apothecary on Florida Avenue in 2010 with partner Terry Bellamy - helped spearhead the idea to provide residents and visitors with a way to locate specialty stores and restaurants in Seminole …

Seminole Heights store owners got a big boost in business last Saturday.
In a community where small business is an ever growing part of the landscape, a day dedicated to providing patronage to such establishments is a major event. Small Business Saturday on Saturday, Nov. 24 led to packed Seminole Heights shops and markets leading to a boost in revenues to kickoff the holiday season. A visit from local news channels combined with his own efforts to the promote the day paid off for Cleanse Apothecary owner Gregory Curtis. "Let's just say we had a very good day," Curtis said of his business at 5127 N. Florida Avenue. "We sent out about 800 postcards, and a lot of people saw us on the news, so we had a great turnout. We were packed throughout the whole day, and because of that, it was our best Small Business …

The event will be next week at the Seminole Heights business.
This just in from Cleanse Apothecary, 5127 N. Florida Avenue: In June of 2010, Seminole Heights residents Gregory Curtis and his partner Terry Bellamy decided it was time to bring boutique shopping to the neighborhood’s commercial corridor. The country’s economy was sputtering, and most weren't contemplating opening a business, but Curtis felt it was the perfect time for Cleanse Apothecary at 5127 North Florida Avenue. This "feel good” body, bath and home boutique is a one-stop shop for luxurious body, bath and home fragrances with a relaxed atmosphere that encourages browsing, smelling and testing, too. Curtis credits their success to the Seminole Heights community that strongly supports the “Eat, Drink & Shop Local” mantra along with “…

The national Cash Mob movement is coming to Tampa beginning Saturday, when a group heads to Cleanse Apothecary in Old Seminole Heights for its first local gathering.
Tampa's Cash Mob will make its first hit this Saturday when it invades Cleanse Apothecary in Old Seminole Heights. Its mission? To help promote local business. Gregory Curtis, owner of Cleanse Apothecary, has never experienced a Cash Mob and was surprised when he was contacted to hold the event, but he's delighted to have his business chosen. "They've been on the news in different cities but I've never experienced anything like this," Curtis said. "I think it's great that people from different communities are rallying together to support local business. It's great to see that people are aware of how important local businesses are to the community." The Cash Mob's mission is to support local and independent businesses in Tampa Bay (…

Cleanse Apothecary will donate proceeds to the Humane Society as it introduces shampoos meant for people as well as pets.
As far as co-showering with your dog is concerned, we think that should be left in the don't-ask-don't-tell category. But reaching for the same bottle of shampoo that you pour over poochie is perfectly fine. That's if it's from Fauna, a line of natural hair care products developed specifically for dual people and pet use. Cleanse Apothecary will feature the Fauna line, particularly two new shampoos, during its Second Annual Fauna Fest, on Feb. 28 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Food from Fit Life Foods and wine will be served, and a raffle will be held for prizes including a Cleanse Apothecary gift basket. Proceeds will be donated to the Run to Remember Alexis Saunders, a Humane Society Event. So what's inside Fauna shampoos to make you, after using …
