During its first school year of 1915 to 1916, Seminole Heights Elementary was housed in a wood frame building on the…More grounds of the present day Seminole Heights Methodist Church. In 1922, the school moved to its present location across Hanna Avenue onto Central Avenue. Seminole Elementary was one of the area's first schools to use modern cold water drinking fountains. In the mid 1920s, the school underwent renovations, followed by more in the 1980s that added four buildings and a media center.
Seminole Heights Elementary serves a variety of demographics, including special needs students and students from low economic groups, qualifying it as a Title I School.
The school has a multi-ethnic student population with approximately 41 percent white, 27 percent black, 22 percent Hispanic and 10 percent multiracial. Approximately 7 percent are classified as English Language Learners, and 64 percent receive free or reduced price lunches.
The school participates in the Teacher Incentive Fund, which awards additional training and bonuses to teachers who are deemed to have performed well in a high need schools.
The school colors are purple and gold, and the mascot is the eagle.

Founded in 1927 as one of seven city libraries, Seminole Heights Branch Library is located on the corner of Osborn…More and Central Avenues. It is frequented by neighborhood families and many students from Memorial Middle School and Hillsborough High School, which are across the street.
The current facility was dedicated in 1965. A new facility has been budgeted for $7.3 million and construction is expected to begin as early as 2011. The branch's Friends of the Library group holds regular book sales and works with the neighborhood associations as advocates for the library.
