Located just before the Hillsborough Avenue bridge, this organization, founded in 1975, serves not just Seminole HeightsMore but all of Tampa. About 500 volunteers deliver meals to about 550 homebound people and seniors daily, driving as far north as the Hillsborough-Pasco county line, as far south as Port Tampa, as far west as Westchase and as far east as Temple Terrace. The kitchen is open for public tours once or twice a month.

Bay Area Legal Services is a nonprofit, public law firm that serves low-income individuals and families and nonprofitMore organizations in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties. The firm is composed of 49 lawyers who provide free legal services to clients who qualify. Services include the resolution of legal problems in the areas of family law, domestic violence, housing and foreclosures, senior rights, consumer law, and public benefits.

Seniors in Service trains and provides senior-aged volunteers to work with children and the elderly. Established as aMore not-for-profit corporation in 1984, the organization has seen its client base increase more than 400 percent and its programs triple, with services now extending into Hillsborough, Polk and Pinellas counties.

Volunteers can serve as foster grandparents, senior companions and caregivers. In addition, the organization offers a "Bill Payer" program designed to help elderly or disabled adults keep up with household financial affairs by assisting them with filling out paperwork, writing checks and balancing bank accounts.

Senior volunteers must commit to 20 hours of service each week. They also must be accepted through a formal enrollment process. Qualified volunteers receive a tax-free stipend, plus travel reimbursement.

Other community volunteers are recruited directly by the organization to help with the Bill Payer program or as caregivers. They serve at their convenience for a few hours each month.
