Volunteer Opportunity: Redemption Song Inc.

This organization with music and artistry at its heart needs help with its fund-raising -- and can help local families in need earn money too.

Redemption Song Inc. is a nonprofit organization that assists at-risk youths and their families through projects involving music and artistry -- for instance, matching a music producer with a gifted child to learn how mathematics is connected to music.

But even if you think you have a tin ear, the group could use your help in several ways.

According to a posting on VolunteerMatch.org, the organization needs volunteers to work the concession stands at Raymond James Stadium, the St. Pete Times Forum, and Tropicana Field.

What’s more, if you’re part of a family with children facing hardship, you can qualify for a $500 grant per volunteering family member simply by volunteering for 20 days through this program, the organization says.

If you have no qualifying hardship -- or if you’re part of a corporate group or small business seeking a chance to get involved in the community -- you can still lend a hand through the program and select a charity to which the grant money can be donated.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have the basic math skills needed to work a retail position (such as counting and making change).

This organization also is interested in connecting with small businesses, individuals or groups willing to display and sell CDs for its fund-raising efforts, and speak about the organization at a display table at the St. Pete Times Forum during certain sporting events.

It also would like to revamp its Web site and is asking someone to donate his or her time toward the redesign.

For a volunteer application or more details about these opportunities, e-mail the organization at redemsong@gmail.com.
