Hope for Homes Project Helping Teacher, Adopted Children

It's not too late to donate or stop by to lend a helping hand as a local nonprofit provides hope and restoration for single mother and five children

This weekend, a teacher raising four adopted children and one grandchild will receive the gift of home repairs from neighbors and volunteers as part of the Hope for Homes Project.

Current of Tampa Bay, Inc. is sponsoring their third Hope for Homes Project  this weekend at the home of Frankie Jones, 3606 E. Genesee St.

Long-time community pillar Evangeline Best, East Tampa Community Advisory Committee and East Tampa Community Revitalization Partnership Chairwoman, recommended the family for the project after learning of safety concerns and necessary repairs needed for the home.

Hope for Homes Projects provide remodeling and improvement work on homes owned by low and middle income families. The first two projects provided Tampa Bay families with much needed home repairs and a sense of hope that they were not alone in their daily life struggles.

"This is something wonderful for Frankie and her family. She is a deserving recipient of this project. She is a hard worker and has dedicated considerable time and effort to this community and making life better for so many others,” said Best.

Volunteers will be at the home between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, when Jones and her family will return to see the repairs and renovations.

The women have been friends for several years and Best is excited to help make life better for the family. Jones is a pre-kindergarten teacher and her four adopted children whose ages range from 7-17 and her grandchild is 2.

Home repairs for this family will include: air conditioner, roof repair, drywall repair, interior and exterior painting and lawn maintenance. HFH projects generally range from small remodel or repair jobs to more extensive needed repairs which help Tampa families enjoy a better quality of life.

The budgets can range from $3,500 - $20,000. If you are interested in helping to sponsor this family or interested in learning more about the Hope for Homes Project contact Executive Director and President Jason Sowell at 813-770-9731 or hfh@engagethecurrent.org.
