Be A Ham - A Ham Radio Operator, That Is

Courses will take place Aug. 10 and 15.

Hillsborough County Amateur Radio Emergency Services/Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service ARES/RACES, in partnership with WMNF 88.5 FM Community Radio, will sponsor two amateur radio courses: the introductory Amateur Radio Technician Class License Course and the General Class License Upgrade Course, all in a traditional classroom setting. 

Join more than 400 people who have taken these courses and earned an Amateur Radio license during the last few years to help support the community in times of need.

These courses will be held over two Saturdays, Aug. 10 and 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Testing will occur at the end of the second class. Both classes will meet at the WMNF 88.5 FM station facility, 1210 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Tampa. 

There are no training fees for these classes. However, there is a $14 fee for taking the test and a refundable deposit of $20 for class materials. The manual books are $19.95 and $29.95, depending upon which course you are taking.

Participants need to pay for the test and the book at the start of class. Participants also need to bring a government-issued picture identification card.

The class size is limited. To register, send an email to training@hcaresraces.org to reserve your seat.
