Whiz Kid: Nick Perez

The Tampa Catholic senior signed a baseball scholarship with St. Thomas University.

Recently Tampa Catholic High School senior Nick Perez signed a letter of intent to attend St. Thomas University. The signing took place on campus at Crusader Hall, with family, coaches, faculty and fellow students attending.

Perez has been a varsity baseball player all three years while attending Tampa Catholic. He has participated as pinch hitter and runner, designated hitter and now starts at second base. This year he was named Pre-Season All America – Honorable Mention and currently carries a batting average of .440. His stats include 33 hits, seven doubles and no errors.

Perez said: “I was not blessed with a typical 6-0’ baseball body, but was blessed with the heart of a 6-5’ baseball player and have been given a great opportunity by St. Thomas coach Perez.”

Perez will be playing for the Bobcats at St. Thomas University located in Miami Gardens, FL. St. Thomas is under the sponsorship of the Archdiocese of Miami, giving it the distinction of being the only Catholic Archdiocesan-sponsored university in the State of Florida.
