Hillsborough Track Right on Pace

Narricka Williams and Jerald Pearson are hurdling Hillsborough's speedy track program into the spotlight.

Male Athlete of the Week: Jerald Pearson

After finishing second at the Charles Johnson in the 110 meter hurdles, Pearson kept his season going strong by winning his preliminary heat in the 110 meter hurdles at the Steinbrenner Invitational at the University of South Florida.

The meet was attended by more than 1,700 athletes from more than 70 schools from around the central and southwest Florida areas. Although Pearson would finish fifth in the final, the Terriers boys team would take first place on the day.

"I feel like I hit too many hurdles," Pearson said. "I just have to focus and keep working. I've had a pretty good season so far and we're doing well as a team because we've been doing well in the big meets, so hopefully we can keep it up."

The accolades continue to pour over the Hillsborough senior as she finished with a gold medal in the 300 hurdles and two silver medals for the 110 meter hurdles and the triple jump at the Steinbrenner Invitational.

In the preliminary round of 110 meter hurdles, Williams posted the best time of all competitors. The performance was exactly what coach Jean Wiser expected out of her captain as the team finished fourth.

"She had a good day," Wiser said. "This meet meant a lot to her, we knew that coming in. She just keeps getting better."
