Hillsborough High Football Assistant Leaves for Brandon Job

Dean Eychner, a Terriers assistant for the past 17 seasons, has been hired as Brandon High's new head coach, Brandon Patch reports.

The Hillsborough High football team has lost its longtime defensive coordinator.

Hillsborough County school officials confirmed the announcement after school Feb. 23.

Eychner fills the position vacated by John Lima, a two-time Coach of the Year honoree, who despite leading the Eagles to the playoffs four out of the past past six years, .

According to a TBO.com report, Eychner was one of 37 applicants for the position and was content working as an assistant for veteran Hillsborough head coach Earl Garcia. But when the Brandon job opened, Eychner decided to apply.

"It's a big loss for Hillsborough because he's more than a coach, he's family," Garcia told TBO.com reporter Bill Ward. "But I couldn't be prouder of Dean. He'll be a great head coach."
