"Transit of Venus" Viewing

Tampa members of the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club invite the public to view a rare celestial event tonight: the planet Venus moving across the sun. This event will not occur again until 2117.

Many club members will have suitable equipment to view this event, such as telescopes with special filters. To protect your eyesight, experts say you should not look directly at the sun. Other adequate eye protection includes special solar-eclipse glasses from a museum, welding glasses (number 14 or darker), or a pinhole projector with cardboard, according to a story in the Associated Press.
