Get Out: Bicycle Bash

The SWFBUD Bicycle Bash is Sunday at Flatwoods Park.

Area bicyclists will converge on Flatwoods Park this Sunday for a day of two-wheeled, pedal-powered fun. The SWFBUD Bicycle Bash takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park on Morris Bridge Road.

“We're going to have a huge crowd,” said Alan Snel, director of SWFBUD, a coalition of local bicycle shops. “The vibe of the day is very uplifting. It just makes you want to ride a bike.”

This event will be the fifth annual Bicycle Bash, and more than a thousand bicycle fans are expected.

  • Bicyclists can buy and sell used gear at a swap meet.
  • Presenters will speak about bicycle education and bike rides in the Tampa Bay area.

Everyone is welcome at the event, said Snel, even if you're only a casual bike rider.

“The one thing I love about the event is that it highlights everyday bicyclists,” he said. “It celebrates everyone who rides a bike.”

Hillsborough County and Cure on Wheels are co-sponsors of the event. The Cure on Wheels ride, to raise money for cancer research, will be held the day before the Bicycle Bash, also at Flatwoods Park.
