Redrawing School Board Districts Up for Discussion

One of the meetings will be held at Middleton High School.

From the Hillsborough County School District:

The Hillsborough County School Board, in conjunction with the Planning Commission and Supervisor of Elections Office, will host five meetings throughout the community to provide information and receive public input on three options for redrawing School Board member districts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

This process is required by Florida law to occur in the year after the U.S. Census is taken. After the public has had a chance to review and comment on the alternatives, the School Board will meet to consider the alternatives and public comments, and to adopt new member voting districts.

There will be no formal presentation at any of the community meetings and all meetings will have the same information available for review and comment. All community meetings will be held in the school cafeterias and will begin at 6 p.m.

The proposed changes to the board member districts will modify the geographic areas from which School Board members are elected.  The modifications will not change which schools students attend, nor will they change bus stops or the availability of transportation to particular schools.

The School Board will meet to discuss the alternatives during a workshop on Sept. 13 and again during a public hearing on Oct. 4, both set to be held at the Raymond O. Shelton School Administrative Center, 901 E. Kennedy Blvd. The public speak to board members about the alternatives at the hearing, but not during the workshop meeting.
