Player of the Week: Adrienne McLean

Middleton High School's Adrienne McLean proves to be a warrior and a valuable asset for the Lady Tigers volleyball team.

Adrienne McLean showed her volleyball teammates the definition of toughness last week playing with a sprained foot throughout Middleton High School's 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay Tech.

Head volleyball coach Robert Dodson was hesitant to play the senior but says she insisted on playing. After the game, he applauded her effort and the grit she showed in playing through the pain.

"She knew we needed her in the middle to block the type of players that Tampa Bay Tech has," Dodson said. "You can't ask more from a player than for them to give you everything they have and she certainly showed that she has guts tonight. We barely lost to Lennard in a tough game because we didn't have her, but hopefully we'll get our shot at them in the district tournament and she'll be in there."

The Tigers fell to 1-7 on the season but Dodson believes that things will get better as the year goes on. The spirit of his team is what keeps him feeling encouraged.

"The bonding that has gone on in this team has been great," Dodson said. "A lot of teams will get down on themselves when they get kicked around the way we did in the first two games against Tech, but our girls didn't and even though they lost, they gave me their best performance in the final game."
