No Layoffs Expected in Hillsborough Schools

The budget fell short, but no jobs are expected to be lost.

TBO.com reported on Tuesday that Hillsborough County Public Schools needs to fill a $5.8 million shortfall in its budget. However, no jobs are expected to be eliminated as school leaders are looking for other ways to make up the difference.

Reporter Sherri Ackerman of The Tampa Tribune reported that unlike other districts in Florida that are eliminating jobs, Hillsborough school leaders will instead look to negotiating with vendors and other options to make up the difference in its nearly $3 billion budget. Pasco schools laid off 470 last week because of a $54.4 million shortfall.
