Local Schoolkids to Get a Glimpse of Career Paths
Great American Teach-In brings CEOs, chefs and more into classrooms.
Hillsborough County public school students will find out what it's like to be a firefighter, a CEO, a chef or a beauty queen as part of the upcoming Great American Teach-In.
The annual event, presented by SERVE, the volunteer arm of the school district, will bring professionals and hobbyists into the classroom to demonstrate the benefits of a good education. This year's volunteer speakers include active members and veterans of the United States armed Forces, police, firefighters, paramedics, animal trainers, attorneys, politicians and more.
In the central Tampa area, students at the will be visited by a certified public accoutant, a K-9 officer from the Tampa International Airport Police Department, a digital designer, and Hillsborough County School Board members Susan Valdes and April Griffin. Young Middle Magnet will be visited by an acupuncturist, a Tampa firefighter, former NFL player Thomas Patrick, Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan, and Hillsborough County School Board member Carol Kurdell.
The Great American Teach-In is officially celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 17, though some school activities will be taking place throughout the week.
