Interested In School Choice? The Application Period Begins July 9

Students interested in school choice, magnet programs and career and technical education programs can apply between July 9 and 23.

If your child is interested in one of the county's magnet programs or would like to attend a school outside his or her attendance boundaries, now's the time to let the Hillsborough County School District know.

The Hillsborough Choice Options application period for magnet programs, school choice and career and technical education programs for the 2013-14 school year opens July 9 and closes July 23.

Under Hillsborough Choice Options, students can apply for a magnet school, career and technical education program or another public school with available space in Hillsborough County.

Students who wish to remain at their current magnet or choice school, or prefer to attend their attendance area school, do not need to complete an application.

School choice and magnet programs are available for students entering kindergarten through 11th grade. There are 11 elementary magnet schools in the county, 12 middle schools and 15 high schools.

Magnet programs include animal science; medical and science exploration; world studies; creative science; visual, performing and communication arts; cultural arts and humanities; environmental studies; math, science and technology; International Baccalaureate programs; the Academy of Health Professions; biomedical-biotechnology; and international studies.

Students currently enrolled in a Hillsborough County public school should apply directly online. Students new to Hillsborough County Public Schools can download an application from the Choice Options website, complete it and mail it to the address listed on the application.

Applications will be available online at choice.mysdhc.org beginning noon on July 9. Parents can call the Choice Information Line at 813-272-4692 for answers to their questions.
