Hillsborough High Invites Alumni to Homecoming

All are welcome at the HHS Alumni Association's pregame spaghetti dinner to benefit the Terriers football team.

Calling all alumni and football fans alike: Plans are in full swing for an evening of Terrier football fun and good eats to benefit the Hillsborough High School Football Trust organization.

Hosted by the HHS Alumni Association, Homecoming 2011 Alumni Night on Oct. 14 will feature a spaghetti dinner, school tours and a night of gridiron action as the Terriers take on Sickles High School.

The event is open to the public, and "the more the merrier," organizer Darlene Fabelo said.

The spaghetti dinner, which includes salad, bread, and a drink, will be held in the cafeteria from 5 to 7pm. Advance dinner tickets are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children under 7; tickets purchased at the door are $8 for adults, $4 for children. School clubs will offer desserts for sale separately. Game tickets are $5, and can be purchased at the dinner or at the gate.

Last years' event drew about 125 people but organizers are expecting possibly 200 this year.

Class of 1950 alumna Rusty Maynor, 78, attended last year's homecoming and plans to be there this year as well.

"A bunch of us get together and talk about 'remember when'," Maynor said. "We talk about the pep rallies we used to have," and the big rivalry between Hillsborough High and Plant High.

"That was the big one then," she said.

The parade featuring the homecoming court and the cheerleaders are a fun part of the experience, "but the cheers are all different now," she said.

She also enjoys the football, especially when the games are well-matched, but the spaghetti dinner is her favorite part of the evening. " At my age I go more for the food now," Maynor laughed.

It's a great event for not just alumni but also folks in the neighborhood to come out and enjoy, she said.

"It's a fun thing to do when the weather's nice, and enjoy the dinner and the game."

The Hillsbrough High School Football Trust provides uniforms and equipment to the school's players. Established by alumni Dale Swope, the organization seeks to fill the funding gap caused by school budget cuts.
