First Annual National Food Day Film Screening and Discussion

Local urban farmers and gardeners, small farmers, CSA's, food co-ops and local vendors advocating for a safe and local food economy gather this evening to celebrate the first annual National Food Day

The evening includes a screening of "Urban Roots," a documentary directed by Mark MacInnis that follows the urban-farming phenomenon in Detroit. The film shows at 7:30pm; a discussion follows.

Prior to the film, learn about opportunities to participate in the local food system, such as community gardens and other grow-your-own food initiatives, and workdays on farms. Individuals and small businesses will provide expert advice on techniques and equipment to start a garden at your own home, as well as demonstrations from The Roosevelt 2.0 regarding upcoming urban-gardening plans and food-related workshops.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to two local farms -- Dancing Goat Farm and EcoFarm -- and to Urban Roots' Farm to Schools program.

Cigar City Brewing will provide free beer samples, as well as local food trucks with farm veggies and cheese.
