Photos: Grocery Store Donates Fresh Apples to 250 Elementary Students

Sweetbay Supermarket delivered bags of fresh apples to 250 students at Sulphur Springs Elementary School's after school program.

According to research by Feeding America, more than 20 percent of Florida children experience food insecurity. Nationwide, one in four children live in a food-insecure household. Research shows that children who are hungry are less likely to be productive adults.

As part of ’s continuing effort to fight hunger in the communities it serves, the grocer donated bags of fresh apples to 250 students at 's after school program on Wednesday, May 2. Kids got to take home 3-lbs bags of fresh Granny Smith apples.
