Velo Champ Set to Host Bicycle Bash Announcement Party

Velo Champ cycles will play host to community leaders, cycling enthusiasts and local businesses next Tuesday night.

on Central Avenue will serve as the center of the Tampa Bay cycling scene next Tuesday as they host the 2012 Bicycle Bash Announcement Party.

The 2012 Bicycle Bash Festival will take place on Nov. 4 at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park in downtown Tampa. It's the first time the Bicycle Bash will be taking place in downtown providing a water-front experience of the city.

The announcement party will provide a venue to get first-hand details on this year's event, mingle with fellow cyclists, meet the owners of local bike shops and enjoy refreshments and entertainment from several Seminole Heights restaurants and businesses.

Vendors include: Mikey's Cafe & Bakery, Cold Storage Brewery, Papa John's Pizza, Buddy Brew Coffee and Microgroove Record Store.

"We have some amenities in the neighborhood now that make doing an event like this straight forward," Velo Champ owner Jordan Miller said. "It should be a good time and a good way to get together with other people in the cycling community."

Several local leaders will be attending the event including: County Commissioner Mark Sharpe, State Representative Janet Cruz, City Council members Yvonne Yolie Capin, Mike Suarez and Mary Mulhern and Tampa Transportation Director Jean Duncan.

"A number of them are known within the cycling community for their advocacy of bicycle safety and cycling infrastructure," Miller said. "We're expecting them to stress the importance of the cycling community and we'll have a sort of alliance of bike shops on hand. It's an opportunity for these elected officials to talk directly with cyclists and pillars of the cycling community."
