Tampa Mayor and County Commissioners Pledge to Work Together

Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners welcomes Tampa's new mayor, Bob Buckhorn.

Newly elected Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn attended the meeting of the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners Wednesday. The mayor and commissioners pledged the city and the county would work together to address the needs of the citizens.

“We can no longer have a divisiveness between the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County,” Commissioner Les Miller said .

The county board had invited Buckhro to the meeting. Buckhorn took the oath of office on April 1 after the voters chose him in the runoff election March 22. Addressing the commissioners, he echoed the sentiment of unity.

“There is far more that unites us than divides us,” Buckhorn said.

Commissioner Mark Sharpe said that in the past the commissioners “probably wouldn't have invited the mayor” to address the meeting.

“This makes history and sets the tone for what needs to be in place,” Commissioner Victor Crist said.

Buckhorn repeated his wish for Tampa to become “the city in America that everyone talks about.”
