Poll: How's Mayor Buckhorn Doing?

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn made a good showing in a St. Petersburg Times / Bay News 9 poll. But we want to know: what do YOU think?

Almost year after following popular two-term Tampa mayor Pam Iorio into office, Bob Buckhorn is looking relatively strong, according to this St. Petersburg Times/Bay News 9 poll.

Sixty-six percent of respondents rated him as doing an average or better job, while 39 percent say his performance is "good or excellent. Twenty-three percent were undecided, and 8 percent voted "not so good" or poor.

As for specific issues, Buckhorn also scored well in downtown development, crime, and the Tampa Bay Rays. Buckhorn's handling of the homeless and panhandling issue was a mixed bag, according to the poll.

But how do we in Central Tampa feel about Mayor Buckhorn, who made creating a master plan for developing growth in much of our urban core part of his campaign platform?

How has Buckhorn affected the quality of life for us in the Heights neighborhoods so far?

Tell us what you think in our poll and comments section below.

How could anyone say that this guy is doing a good job? He lies about things constantly. That gun buyback "took guns off the streets"? I don't think so. It took guns out of the hands of responsible people that didn't want their guns. They were safe inside responsible people's homes.
The red light cams provide safety? I mean the seem so effective, right? Look how many people they DIDN'T stop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh8VC2LMoCY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVuEQyZKsQg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhK-wuPwucI Of course you can't comment on the videos to point out that they're obviously not effective because HCSO has disabled comments. Those people break the law, some horribly, some by accident. And all get tickets weeks later for an incident they don't even remember. This is about revenue, not about safety as Buckhorn claimed. Our own USF study said that increasing the yellow time is the way to make our intersections safer. Almost all of those near accidents could have been avoided by increased yellow timing, and increased all-red timing. But then we wouldn't get a large cut of the fines. And look how long it took Buckhorn and our ineffective city council to ban panhandling. It's not even a full ban, and there are still panhandlers around, only now they're selling newsletters. Buckhorn is a TERRIBLE mayor.

I would also like to add that that gun buyback program cost is a lot of money, probably about $40,000. And it basically stiffed anyone who brought in a legal gun because almost ANY gun is worth more than $50. Gun buying is not a business the city should be in.

Yes, Page--I love the idea of a little fresh foods market...prepared foods, produce...it would be soRead More nice to have a place to walk to with the kids in the late afternoon, pick up a snack and some veggies for that night's dinner...a place with outdoor seating that would be a neighborhood gathering spot. A place that would become a 3x a week stop for neighbors, a place people enjoy "running up" to. I'm excited to see what happens!

I would love to see a small market in the neighborhood also. With fresh produce, and other basicRead More necessities for cooking, that you might have just run out of or forgot to pick up when you did your weekly shopping. Plus a nice selection of wine. Circle K has a good selection of beer, but there isn't a good selection of wines in the neighborhood for takeaway.

I would like to see another Family Dollar. One on every corner is not enough.
