Open House Set Feb. 5 on Proposed Rezoning

The rezoning would permit three- and four-story buildings along Florida and Hillsborough avenues.

A public information open house is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. to discuss a proposal for intensive commercial zoning along Hillsborough and Florida avenues in Seminole Heights.

The open house will take place at the Seminole Heights Garden Center, 5800 N. Central Ave., Tampa.

The City of Tampa Planning Department is proposing new zoning that would permit:

  • SH-CI, Commercial Intensive, along Florida Avenue, which allows up to four stories for a main building and up to two stories for an accessory building on a lot of at least 7,500 square feet and 75 feet in width.
  • The two-block area north and south of Hillsborough Avenue to be zoned Residential Multi-family, which allows up to four stories for the main building and up to two stories for an accessory building on a lot of at least 50 feet in width.
  • Additional commercial zoning, SH-CG, allowing up to three stories on a 7,500-square-foot lot in the area of Central and Hillsborough avenues including the entire southeast block from Hillsborough to Giddens avenues.

Representatives from the planning department will be on hand to explain the proposed rezoning in more detail.

The Old Seminole Heights Neighborhood Association is urging all neighbors who would like to understand exactly how the proposed rezoning will impact the neighborhood, ask questions or express concerns to attend.
