North Boulevard Repair Continues
Work on the Sept. 6 road collapse at Lowry Park could be complete within seven days.
The natural flow of North Boulevard traffic, and the waters of Hamilton Creek, could be restored to normal within a week, according to City of Tampa project engineer Albert Calloway.
Recent rainfall caused the creek’s culvert that passes underneath North Boulevard at Lowry Park to collapse on Sept. 6, creating a large street crater. The road remains closed between West Flora and West Clinton streets. Lowry Park Zoo and the Zoo School can be accessed by the zoo’s main entrance on Sligh Avenue.
Calloway said the portion of road that crosses over the creek had to be completely removed to excavate the old trio of corrugated metal culvert pipes. They have been replaced with two runs of 6-foot-by-3-foot concrete culvert boxes. “They should last much longer than the old ones,” he said.

As for project completion, Calloway said, “We’re shooting for the end of next week, best case scenario. If we get some weather, it could push it into the following week.”
