Seminole Heights Resident Reacts to DOMA Ruling

Local residents have reacted to the Supreme Court's decision.

When Mauricio Rosas heard the Defense of Marriage Act was ruled unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court today, tears of joy filled his eyes.

Rosas, a Seminole Heights resident, married his partner five years ago in San Francisco. Rosas said he knew an end was coming for DOMA, which barred the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages legalized by the states.

"I started to get very emotional," he said of hearing the news. "Tears of joy were coming."

Rosas said a celebration is in the works for himself and his partner.

"When he gets home, we will probably open up a nice bottle of bubbly," Rosas said. "The Seminole Heights community will definitely be holding a party."
