Hillsborough’s Economy: Have Your Say

The Hillsborough County Commission wants to hear from residents about a plan to bolster the local economy. Time, however, is running out.

Hillsborough County’s Economic Prosperity Stakeholder Committee has spoken its peace on what local government should do to improve the area’s financial climate.

Now, County Commissioners want to hear from you, Seminole Heights, about the recommendations made.

Time, however, is running out for you to have your say on the 30 recommendations the committee has made.

Do you think the county needs to streamline regulations? Should it create a comprehensive economic development strategy? Should the county provide more incentives for job-creating businesses to move here?

Those are just a few of the issues the county wants your opinion on. The deadline to provide feedback: Feb. 28.

There are three ways for you to have your say:

The committee was created last year to provide commissioners with insights on what local leaders think needs to be done to turn the area’s economy around. While Hillsborough's economy is looking up and the county's budget figures are improving, officials say more needs to be done.

To make that happen, the committee has made recommendations that fall into two categories:

  • Economic development and planning
  • Regulatory streamlining

Before action is taken on the recommendations, commissioners decided to gain feedback from residents. To see the full recommendation report, visit the county’s website.

Yes, Page--I love the idea of a little fresh foods market...prepared foods, produce...it would be soRead More nice to have a place to walk to with the kids in the late afternoon, pick up a snack and some veggies for that night's dinner...a place with outdoor seating that would be a neighborhood gathering spot. A place that would become a 3x a week stop for neighbors, a place people enjoy "running up" to. I'm excited to see what happens!

I would love to see a small market in the neighborhood also. With fresh produce, and other basicRead More necessities for cooking, that you might have just run out of or forgot to pick up when you did your weekly shopping. Plus a nice selection of wine. Circle K has a good selection of beer, but there isn't a good selection of wines in the neighborhood for takeaway.

I would like to see another Family Dollar. One on every corner is not enough.
