Help Build a Playground in V.M. Ybor

Volunteers are needed to build a playground at Cuscaden Park.

From the City of Tampa:

The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department is building a playground and needs your help. The city is seeking 100 volunteers to assist in a community build day beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Cuscaden Park, located at 2900 N. 15 St.

The children residing in the V.M. Ybor neighborhood, where Cuscaden Park is located, began planning their new playground in August when a professional playground designer from KaBoom!, a national non-profit organization whose mission is to create great play spaces, met with the children to find out what they wanted in their own play space.

Now that the design is complete, it will need the community to build it. The new play space is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of Tampa Recreation, Foresters Insurance Company, KaBOOM!, and the City of Tampa.

The city invites you to be one of the volunteers who will build these children a new playground on one monumental day. No previous building experience is necessary. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. To volunteer, contact: Julio Barrera at (813) 274-5188 or  Julio.Barrera@tampagov.net.

This is the fourth time the City of Tampa has teamed with the national playground builder KaBoom! to create a new play space in Tampa. The first community playground build took place in 2007 at Highland Pines Park. Playgrounds have also been built at and Jackson Heights Park.
