Free Wi-fi at Parks Near Seminole Heights?

The option could be available at the Tampa Riverwalk, Water Works Park, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Cotanchobee Park and Riverfront Park.

The desire for all of Tampa's parks to have free wi-fi could soon be a reality after Mayor Bob Buckhorn released a request for proposals to find a provider.

The RFP asks for free wi-fi at areas and parks near Seminole Heights that include: the Tampa Riverwalk, Water Works Park, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Cotanchobee Park and Riverfront Park. In addition, the RFP asks for providers who can operate the wi-fi network independently of the City of Tampa.

Responses to the RFP are due by 2:30 p.m. on July 30.

“Wi-Fi will be a draw, particularly for the thousands of visitors who come down to the parks throughout our urban core, and a great amenity for the residents who live around them,” said Mayor Bob Buckhorn in a news release. “I want people of all ages and backgrounds to come downtown and be able to work and play at the same time.”

What do you think of the idea? Are there other parks without wi-fi you think should be added to the list? Tell us in the comments.
