Fourth of July: What's Open, What's Closed in Seminole Heights

Here's what you need to know about trash pickup, school, mail delivery and other government services around Hillsborough County for the Independence Day holiday.

Wednesday, July 4 is Independence Day, a federal holiday.

Here's a look at what's open and what's closed in Seminole Heights and around Hillsborough County in observance of the holiday:

Government offices

The majority of Hillsborough County and City of Tampa offices and facilities will be closed on Wednesday.

Closed facilities include the administrative offices of county government, neighborhood service centers, all libraries, all county-operated Head Start/Early Head Start Centers, recreation centers, senior centers and nutrition sites.

Trash pickup

For residents who live in the unincorporated Hillsborough County Service Area, there will be no solid waste collection (including garbage, recyclables and yard waste) Wednesday.

Solid waste customers whose scheduled collection day falls on Wednesday may set out twice the amount of garbage, recyclables and yard waste on the next scheduled day for pick up of these items.

Residential collection for City of Tampa customers will not be effected by the holiday and services will run as normal. Commercial services will run one day late through Saturday, July 7, and normal schedules will resume on July 9.

Mail

There will be no U.S. Postal Service delivery Wednesday.

Animal services

Animal Services is hosting a red, white and blue bash for shelter pets on July 4 called "Flags & Fur ‘Til 4" at 444 N. Falkenburg Rd. in Tampa. From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the special event will feature adoptions at half-price. Adoption fees include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchip, veterinary health check up, Hillsborough County pet registration tag and a free goodie bag. 

While the shelter is open on the holiday for this event and lost pet search, the animal turn-in gate will not be open. A limited number of officers will be on call for animal emergencies only (813-744-5660). Normal shelter operations and hours will resume on Thursday, July 5 at 9 a.m.

Fire rescue

Fire Rescue Administration and the Fire Marshall offices will be closed Wednesday. All emergency services will continue without interruption.

Infoline

Hillsborough County’s InfoLine, 813-272-5900, will be closed.

Libraries

All libraries in the Hillsborough County Library Cooperative will be closed.

Parks and recreation

All regional parks are normally open on Independence Day. However, some parks may still be dealing with the impacts of Tropical Storm Debby. Check by calling the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department at 813-635-3500 for information on the following: 

  • Lithia Springs Park
  • Trout Creek Park boardwalk area
  • Morris Bridge Park, east side

All county recreation centers will be closed.

Sunshine Line

The transportation service will not be available on Monday.

Water/wastewater

The Public Utilities Department’s customer call center and water/wastewater customer service centers will be closed.

Emergency calls regarding county water and wastewater service may be made to 813-744-5600. Also, the Public Utilities Department’s Water Quality Hotline is answered 24 hours a day. That number is 813-264-3835.

Constitutional officers

Offices of the Property Appraiser and Tax Collector will be closed, as well as offices of the Clerk of the Circuit Court and court facilities.
