City Council Wants 2 New Rules To Limit Homeless

Police could arrest anyone who refuses to leave after receiving two warnings, but only if police have provided alternatives as well.

The Tampa City Council took the next steps with two new rules that would affect the city's homeless.

One rule would ban certain types of aggressive panhandling in Ybor City and downtown Tampa, according to TBO.com. Panhandling would also be banned near ATM's and outdoor cafe's.

The second rule would "prohibit people from storing their property in public, urinating in public, and sleeping or camping in parks, on sidewalks or in public rights of way," according to Tampabay.com.

The second reading and public comment on the issue is scheduled for Thursday, July 18.
