Buckhorn Wins Tampa Mayoral Election

Three more City Council seats are won by large margins.

Bob Buckhorn handily won the Tampa mayoral runoff election on Tuesday by grabbing nearly 63 percent of votes cast. Opponent Rose Ferlita conceded the race about an hour after the polls closed.

Buckhorn and Ferlita defeated three other opponents in the March 1 general election, including current District 5 Councilman Tom Scott, former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco and businessman Ed Turanchik.

Buckhorn replaces outgoing Mayor Pam Iorio, who was unable to run for re-election again due to term limits.

In other election results, Mike Suarez won the citywide District 1 council seat with nearly 61 percent of the vote over current Curtis Stokes, who loses his current District 3 seat.

Current District 4 Councilwoman Yvonne Yolie Capin captured the citywide District 3 seat, defeating Chris Hart with 52 percent of the vote.

District 4 went to Harry Cohen with nearly 61 percent of the vote over Julie Jenkins; and District 7 was won by Lisa Montelione, who received also received nearly 61 percent of the vote over Charlie Perkins.

Earlier this month, District 6 Councilman Charlie Miranda won re-election over challenger Kelly Benjamin. City District 2 Councilwoman Mary Mulhern won re-election with 51percent of the vote, and Frank Reddick won the District 5 seat with nearly 52 percent of the vote.
