Area Driver License Office to Close March 28

The office is transitioning to being controlled by the Hillsborough County Tax Collector and will reopen this summer.

Seminole Heights area customers might have to go a little farther for some of their driver's license needs starting next week.

The state's Driver License Office at 2814 E. Hillsborough Ave. is closing Wednesday, March 28, and will reopen this summer under control of the Hillsborough County Tax Collector's Office.

The office will shut down for renovations at the close of business next Wednesday, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced.

In the meantime, driver license services will still be available at nine locations in Hillsborough County. Seminole Heights area customers who need to take a driving test should visit the Driver License Office at 4100 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Tampa.

The state is transitioning driver license services to county tax collectors across Florida.

Customers are encouraged to visit hillstax.org before visiting an office in person. They can also renew driver licenses, identification cards and vehicle tags and conduct other driving-related business online at GoRenew.com. There are no extra charges for using the online services.
