Update: Old Seminole Heights Woman Dies in Car Crash

Old Seminole Heights resident Alexandra C. Johnson passed away on Monday, May 7, after being involved in a car accident.

Update at 10:55 a.m.: Florida Avenue is now open in all directions, according to the Tampa Police Department.

A Old Seminole Heights woman died after being involved in a car accident Monday, May 7, according to Tampa police.

Alexandra C. Johnson, 27, was traveling westbound on East Lambright Street in a blue Infiniti, police said.

At the intersection of East Lambright Street and North Florida Avenue, Johnson attempted to turn southbound onto North Florida Avenue when she was T-boned on the driver's side by a a blue Chevy Blazer driven by Lisa A. Valdez, according to police.

Police said that Valdez, 38, was traveling northbound on North Florida Avenue when she saw Johnson’s vehicle pull-out in front of her. Valdez was unable to avoid striking Johnson’s vehicle, according to police.

Johnson’s was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where she was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident. Next of kin has been notified, police said.

Valdez sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover.

The investigation is on-going at this time and the previous road closures are still in effect. An alert will be sent out once the roads are back open, police said.

Tampa Police are investigating a serious crash that has shut down all lanes of Florida Avenue between North Street and Sligh Avenue.

Officials said the crash happened around 7 a.m. Monday.

No further details were available. An alert will be sent out when the northbound and southbound lanes are reopened, Tampa Police said.
