Traffic Crash Under Investigation

The car accident involves a police officer and one other person.

UPDATED AT 11 P.M.

Tampa Police officer and six-year veteran Jeff Bartlett, 28, and Ronald Adkins, 58, were involved in a car crash at 7.20 p.m. at the corner of East Bush Boulevard and North 22nd Street today, a TPD press release said.

Officer Bartlett was driving westbound on East Bush Boulevard and Adkins was driving a 1987 Oldsmobile eastbound on the same road.

Adkins attempted to make a left turn directly in the TPD patrol car’s path. It is unclear why the driver turned into the officer’s path. Officer Bartlett had the green light and the right of way.

Adkins was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition, the press release said.

Officer Bartlett was also taken to Tampa General Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Traffic is closed westbound on East Bush Boulevard and one lane is open eastbound on the same street while detectives investigate the accident. A traffic signal was also knocked out of service.

The road should be open within the next two hours.
