Pulling of Nipples on 2-year-old Leads to Injury, Arrest

Thomas Matheson was charged with child abuse.

A 2-year-old boy was injured recently after a New Port Richey area man manhandled the boy’s nipples, according to Pasco County Sheriff’s deputies .

Thomas Matheson was watching the boy on Friday in New Port Richey while the boy’s mother was at work. At some point, Matheson pulled and twisted the boy’s nipples so hard “the skin covering the nipples was removed,” according to an arrest report.

He did not seek medical attention for the boy. The boy’s grandmother later spotted the injuries and called the Sheriff’s Office.

Matheson was arrested Tuesday. He told deputies he had been “playing rough” with the victim. Although the boy had been shirtless, the man told deputies he did not know he had been hurt.

The boy was taken to a local hospital Tuesday. The arrest report says a doctor said his injuries were likely due to trauma, “and the nipples were removed." He said they were unlikely to grow back.

Matheson, 27, who lives in Cypress Trail Apartments in New Port Richey, was charged with child abuse. He is currently being held in the Land O' Lakes Jail without bail.

Where is God's name is the mother's common sense. These stories are always end up horrible for the children with the "live-in" or the "boyfriend" watching someone elses offspring. She should be held as much responsible as this useless human being. Why did the grandmother report it and not the mother?

^ to the comment above... it happens everywhere and in this case it wasnt "repetitive abuse." There were no bruises or burns or bite marks. I see these cases all over the internet and cases that the mother or "castodial parent" should be convicted along with the abuser is when it happens and she\he knows about it. People can "hide" a part of themselves for years and then get the child while the parent is away. Im a mom, she is 15 months old and i couldnt imagine being blamed for something i didnt do... u should think before you speak. People have to work, hence the childcare and the abuse is EVERYWHERE including daycares, family members, friends or the significant other. Common sense has nothing to do with having to support your family. Your opinion makes me sick, I hope nothing like this every happens to you and some rude person says its your fault when its really not. Being told that you hurt your own child. There are SICK and TWISTED people everywhere. (To All Parents-)Evil is everywhere, the only thing I have to say about that is pay more attention to your children or child and look at their bodys, make sure they are ok. Pay attention to the way they act around the person caring for them. Kids have their own way of showing you. The only thing we can do is pray that god protects our little angels and be aware of the signs, don't trust just anyone.
