Crime Blotter: Thievery Strikes at Businesses, Homes

Money and Bud Lime are taken by force, while a Moti scooter disappears without witnesses.

Dec. 19

  • Jammal Jashawn Shaw and Kacie Jo Orr were arrested by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and charged with armed robbery. Shaw and Orr pulled into a parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 10815 N Florida Ave., according to the sheriff's office. Shaw, 27, then yelled to the victim who was getting into his car that there was something wrong with his license plate. The victim checked his plate, then was blocked from closing his car door by Orr. Officials say she then revealed a black handgun in her waistband and said, "Give me your wallet or I'll blow your head off."

    Orr, 23, took cash out of the wallet and she and Shaw fled in their car. Later a sheriff's deputy stopped Shaw in his car in the parking lot of University Mall at 2200 E. Fowler Ave. Orr was found inside the mall by sheriff's deputies. Shaw and Orr were taken to the sheriff's office, where Orr confessed and implicated Shaw in the robbery, according to police. Shaw then placed himself at the scene of the robbery, and other robberies around the county with similar MOs and suspect descriptions, and also admitted to possession of the firearm used in the crimes, according to officials. Shaw, who has served a 10-year sentence in state prison for multiple robberies, is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
  • The front passenger window of a 2011 Nissan Altima was smashed at Rowlett Park. A purse was then stolen from the front seat.
  • A scooter was stolen from the front porch of a residence on the 6000 block of North Flora Vista Avenue. The scooter is described as a 2009 Moti, dark blue and silver, Florida tag 5167LA, VIN number RFVPAP5A191007168.

Dec. 20

  • A man was smoking a cigarette on his driveway on the 800 block of West Sitka Street when a white older model van with a loud muffler pulled up. A man described as a Hispanic male, thin, 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-4, with a pony tail and red shirt, got out of the van and asked the victim for money. When he said no, another man described as a white male, 6 feet tall with an average build in a white hoodie, threw the victim to the ground. The suspects took $130 from the victim's wallet and fled eastbound in the van.
  • Police have charged Armentero Moreno and Edgar Hernandez with burglarizing the at 1401 W Waters Ave. When officers arrived on scene responding to an active alarm, Hernandez, 23, was spotted running from the back of the business. He was apprehended without incident. Police apprehended Moreno, 51, inside the store in the process of stealing two cases of Bud Lime beer. The suspects had also tried to steal the drawer from the cash register, cases of beer, and packs of cigarettes, according to police.
