Tampa Police Investigating Robbery and Burglaries

May 6

ROBBERY At 12:40 p.m., a student from Erwin Technical Center was walking on Comanche Avenue near 19th Street after leaving classes when a man grabbed him around the neck and told him, "Give it to me, boy," Tampa Police said. After a brief struggle, the victim saw two other men, one armed with a broom handle and another with a closed pocket knife. Fearing for his life, the victim gave the men his wallet. The first suspect took $150 from the wallet and then threw the wallet down before the trio left. The victim sustained minor scratches that did not require medical attention, police said.

The suspects are described as the following:

  • Suspect 1: a black male in his early 30s, approximately 6-feet-2-inches tall, weighing 220 to 240 pounds with short hair, a full beard, a dark complexion, a gap in his front teeth and wearing a heavy black jacket.
  • Suspect 2: a black male in his early 20s, 6 feet tall, 140 pounds with black hair in twists, a scruffy beard, a light complexion and wearing a dirty red hoodie and armed with a broomstick.
  • Suspect 2: a black male in his early 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, with a medium complexion, a small mustache and wearing a black hoodie with red and white writing on it. He was armed with a closed pocket knife.

BURGLARY — Tampa Police made an arrest in connection with a burglary at Instant Tax Service at 7231 N. Nebraska Ave. At about 7 a.m., a desktop computer, monitor and keyboard were taken. At approximately 12:55 p.m., a patrol corporal spotted a man standing at a bus stop at the corner of East Broad with a wicker basket at his feet that contained the electronic equipment. The suspect, Angel Labrador Jimenez, 21, was charged with burglary and grand theft. He remains in custody in lieu of $4,000 bond.

May 8

BURGLARY — Tampa Police are investigating the burglary of a residence at 8200 N. Marks. At about 11:22 a.m., someone kicked in the back door to an apartment and stole three laptop computers. Two were HP brand and one was an Acer. The suspect was described as a black male, bald, 35 to 40 years of age, 5-feet-10 inches tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a white tank top and dark shorts. He left in a faded, black Mecury Grand Marquis sedan with duel exhausts and dark tinted windows.

May 9

BURGLARY — Tampa Police are investigating a reported burglary at a commercial strip mall located at 2300 W. Waters. Someone entered one of the businesses from an adjacent unit and cut triangles into the top and side of the safe in an attempt to gain access to cash but failed to do so. The suspect did obtain $50 from the countertop before leaving.

THEFT Tampa Police are investigating a report that someone removed the catalytic converter from a 2000 Toyota 4Runner parked at the Home Depot at 8815 N. Florida Avenue.
