Stolen Jet Skis, Burglaries Among Recent Police Reports

Ex-roommate is person of interest in home robbery, a car with a broken ignition switch was stolen, and two jet skis disappeared from a driveway.

Recent reports form Tampa Police District 2: 

Aug. 30

  • A burglary was reported at the 8500 block of North Hamner Avenue. There was no sign of forced entry. Reported taken were: a PlayStation 3 and $50 in cash. A neighboring house has a camera outside but the system was malfunctioning. Neighbor stated the system may be fixed to view the video. Victim’s ex-roomate is person of interest. She moved out a week ago and swears the key was turned in and she knows nothing about the theft. Neighbor said people come and go at all hours. 
  • Between August 30 and 31, someone entered into two unlocked vehicles at the 900 block of West Patterson Street and removed a car stereo from one vehicle and a CD player from the other.

  • At 4.30 a.m., someone entered into a 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass at the 2100 block of West Kirby Circle. The vehicle had a broken ignition switch and broken door locks from a previous theft incident. The culprit utilized a screwdriver that had been placed in the broken ignition by the victim, and stole the vehicle from the victim’s driveway. The culprit abandoned the vehicle in the area of North Rivershore Drive and West Whatley Place. The suspect ignited the vehicle using an unknown accelerant and the vehicle burned to the ground, leaving no part of it salvageable. A Tampa Fire Department arson investigator responded to the scene and processed same, citing the cause of the fire as arson. The approximate value of the vehicle was $1,500.
  • Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., someone stole two 2008 Sea Doo jet skis that were on a dual trailer in a driveway at the 1900 block of West Humphrey Street. Both jet skis are black and grey in color. 
  • A burglary was reported at the 2100 Block of West Flora Street. Reported taken were: a Gateway laptop, a Canon digital camera, Oakley sunglasses, and a Diesel wrist watch. The victim rents a room from the owner of the burglarized house. The victim’s bedroom door was pried open. A neighbor witnessed a man exiting the front door of the house and entering a white full size pickup truck. The make or model of the vehicle are unknown.
