Sheriff Addresses RNC Concerns in Letter to the Public

Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee has written a letter to the public concerning security at the Republican National Convention.

Sheriff David Gee issued a letter to the public earlier this week outlining his office's plan for the Republican National Convention and to assure citizens county wide that officers will be working service calls.

The letter clearly discusses the plan for RNC-related arrests, tactical strategies for his officers and staffing throughout the event. Thousands of law enforcement officials will flood downtown Tampa along with the delegates and politicians attending the event, prompting Gee to write the letter.

"To the agitators and anarchists who want only to bring a dark cloud to this event, let me be clear: criminal activity and civil disturbances will not be tolerated and enforcement actions will be swift.," Gee said in the letter.

Deputies and officers will be on horseback, on foot or riding bicycles and motorcycles. Many also will be dressed in specially designed uniforms and riot gear. The sheriff's office and Tampa police are preparing for what is coming their way during the convention Aug. 27-30.

We want to know what you think. Are Tampa's law enforcement agencies prepared to provide the right level of security for the RNC?
