Rape Arrest at Chamberlain High

A fellow student is accused of attacking the victim.

Tampa Police are investigating a report of sexual assault at Chamberlain High School.

A 16-year-old student was out of class on Monday morning with a hall pass and was going to her locker when fellow student Joshua Bynum met her in the hallway, Tampa Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy said in a news release.

Bynum, also 16, "began following the victim around the hallway as if to stalk her," McElroy said. "Once she passed outside of the gym, the suspect forced her into a nearby boys bathroom, forcing her to have sex with him."

When the attack ended, Bynum went back to class, she said. The victim reported the attack to the school resource officer.

"Initially, the suspect denied the act or having contact with the victim," McElroy said. "He then changed his story. Both versions of his statements were inconsistent with physical evidence from the medical exam."
